About Healthy Home Guide

Hi, I’m Alex Kessler. I believe that everyone deserves to live in a home with fresh, clean air. Even renters. Even those without state-of-the-art ducted HVAC systems. I share practical, budget-friendly (yet effective) DIY protocols for creating a safe and healthy home, whether the word "home" refers to your house or your body.

What qualifies me to speak about indoor air quality and building science?

1.) I myself have been severely chronically ill from toxic mold exposure, and am still recovering (I have CIRS). There is no better education program than having to navigate living in multiple toxic buildings and deal with the effects that has on your body. During the worst of my experience, I swore to myself that I needed to help ensure that what happened to me does not happen to others. If it already happened to you and you have an environmentally-acquired illness like Mold Illness, CIRS, MCAS, POTS, ME/CFS, MCS, or even severe allergies, I’d like to help you find relief. That’s why I started my Youtube channel Healthy Home Guide.

2.) After obtaining a degree in neuroscience, I worked as a translational scientist in precision medicine/cancer genomics for 10 years. That means it was my job to translate science into practice. Every day I read research studies and interpreted their implications for cancer treatment.

3.) My work has also been recognized by leading professionals in building science and environmental health.

  • John Banta, CIH, an environmental mold specialist, researcher, and author, featured my work in his book Mold Controlled, a trusted resource among professionals working with environmentally sensitive clients.

  • Dr. Allison Bailes III, PhD, a nationally respected building science educator and founder of Energy Vanguard, shared and recommended my ERV installation guide with his audience of builders, consultants, and home performance professionals.

4.) With over 2 million views on my YouTube channel and numerous consultations, I've helped countless people improve their air quality. Check out my testimonials to see the impact. Subjecting my ideas to the scrutiny of millions of people has helped me refine my approach, and has made me aware of my blind spots.

My goal is to make healthy indoor air accessible. How? By designing and testing protocols, and creating tutorials for implementing them (often at a fraction of the cost typically associated with such applications). I don’t yell from the hilltops about how important air quality is, and how toxic our world is, simply spreading fear and offering no solutions. I’m right down here with you, in the real world, trying to find a practical way for me and you to reduce our symptoms. I have an innate tendency to meticulously test strategies for improving my quality of life, and have had to do so mostly out of necessity.

I feel it’s my purpose on this earth to help ensure that your home only supports your health, never detracts from it. I consider it an honor to be of service to you.
