About Healthy Home Guide

Hi, I’m Alex Kessler. I'm an indoor/outdoor environmental consultant and translational scientist. After surviving CIRS across multiple toxic buildings, I pivoted ten years of precision medicine training into a public mission: offer guidance on mold and indoor air quality grounded in real-world practicality, not marketing. My YouTube channel (2M+ views) and 1:1 virtual consultations serve renters, homeowners, and the chronically ill (CIRS, etc).

What qualifies me to speak about indoor air quality and building science?

1.) I came to this work the hard way, through the lived experience of becoming severely chronically ill from biotoxin exposure. During the worst of my illness, I was bed-ridden and unable to do anything without getting dizzy. My other symptoms were too numerous to even list. The experience of descending and clawing my way back upward taught me things no certification program can. It gave me a calling: to help bring people back into alignment with their environments.

2.) For 10 years, I was a translational scientist in cancer genomics. My job was to read research studies and figure out how to apply their findings to cancer treatment in a practical way: to bridge the gap between research and real-world practice. When my home made me sick, I turned that same rigor on my own environment. I found a wide gap between how the standard recommendations are supposed to work and how they actually work. Bridging it is how I recovered, and it’s what I’ll teach you to do.

3.) My work has also been recognized by leading professionals in building science and environmental health.

  • John Banta, CIH, an environmental mold specialist, researcher, and author, featured my work in his book Mold Controlled, a trusted resource among professionals working with environmentally sensitive clients.

  • Dr. Allison Bailes III, PhD, a nationally respected building science educator and founder of Energy Vanguard, shared and recommended my ERV installation guide with his audience of builders, consultants, and home performance professionals.

4.) With over 2 million views on my YouTube channel and 30K subscribers, I've helped countless people improve their air quality. Check out my testimonials to see the impact. Subjecting my ideas to the scrutiny of millions of people has helped me refine my approach, and has made me aware of my blind spots.

5.) I am an environmental consultant with Flourish Clinic, a CIRS clinic led by Mark Volmer R.Ac, FMP and Jane Prescot FMCHC. I consult independently as well.

6.) I’m a member of the Healthy Building Alliance, a curated network of professionals who are shaping the future of healthy building. Here’s my profile.

I call myself an indoor/outdoor environmental consultant because my approach is inspired by the natural world. I aim to recreate indoor conditions closer to the outdoors, because that is what our physiology evolved to thrive in. I believe it is deeply healing to cultivate a relationship with nature, and I can teach you how. Sunlight, fresh air, diverse microbial ecosystems - if we all had more of these, environmental illness rates would decline significantly.
